I wonder who the person in Hollywood is that sits and monitors when celebrities “unfollow” other celebrities on twitter.  That person had a busy weekend as some high-profile celebs “unfollowed” their exes this past weekend.

Shortly after it was announced that Katy Perry and Russell Brand had filed for divorce, Katy unfollowed Russell on Twitter.  However it took a few months for Russell to click the “unfollow” button on his beautiful ex.  Brand has 4.6 million followers on twitter, and after deleting his soon to be ex, he now only follows 77 people.  The divorce will be final in July.

Chris Brown and Rihanna have had a roller-coaster relationship, and after Chris released a freestyle rap last week that many assumed was taking a shot at Rihanna, it didn’t take long for her to make Brown disappear from her timeline.  According to E! News:

Soon after, Brown himself stopped following Rihanna, as well as tweeting out the following regarding the rumors: “Assumptions! I didn’t say any names so if u took offense to it then it’s something you feel guilty about.”

By the way, be sure to follow me on twitter!  @DJKyleWest

I must admit, I am pretty excited to see how this turns out.  Other than Lady Gaga and maybe Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Rihanna have ruled the charts over the past five years like nobody else.

From Seattle PI:

Katy Perry and Rihanna are in no rush to record a girl power duet – because they want to take their time on the project and release an “iconic” collaboration like “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves.”

The pop star pals have been open about their desire to tackle the charts together, but the “I Kissed A Girl” hitmaker has high hopes for the track and is keen to emulate the success of the Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin’s 1985 hit.

Speaking on Britain’s Radio 1, she says, “We’ve collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet. It’s one of those things that’s got so much build up that we have to deliver.

“I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,’ not like (Shakira and Beyonce song) ‘Beautiful Liar.’

“But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic. (Rihanna’s) kind of busy too. We’re both busy but we planted the seed two years ago. How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it’s no good? Sometimes you have to wait for greatness.”

Are you looking forward to hearing the final product??

Pretty incredible for Katy Perry.  She just puts out hit after hit.  “Part Of Me” is the song she debuted to a great reaction at the Grammy awards, and it’s chart debut at #1 only identifies how big of a hit it is.  You will hear plenty of it on 102.7 WBOW!

More from MTV news:

Katy Perry is back in a familiar place with her brand-new single: the top of the Billboard charts.

After performing “Part of Me” — the first single off the deluxe reissue of her Teenage Dream album — at the 54th Grammy Awards, Perry sat back and watched as the song debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, making it just the 20th track in the chart’s 53-year history to bow in the top slot.

According to Billboard, Perry joins a list of stars that includes Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Eminem (not to mention a host of former “American Idol” champions) who have all accomplished the feat — the last was Lady Gaga, whose “Born This Way” opened at #1 nearly one year ago. In the process, Perry has notched her seventh career Hot 100 #1.

“Part of Me” also rocketed to #1 on the Digital Songs chart, racking up more than 411,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That’s a career-best week for Perry, and is the highest opening number for any artist since Gaga sold more than 448,000 downloads of “Born This Way” last year.

Perry wasn’t the only artist to benefit from the post-Grammy bounce; Adele, who, as you might have heard, did pretty well at the show, not only sold an astonishing (and record-setting) 730,000 copies of her 21 album last week, but becomes the first female artist in Hot 100 history to have three solo titles in the Top 10: “Set Fire to the Rain” at #2, “Rolling in the Deep” at #5 and “Someone Like You” at #7.

Here is the latest from MSNBC:

Rumors have been swirling for some time, but the Associated Press is now reporting that comedian and actor Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry have filed for divorce.

The 36-year-old comedian told AP on Friday: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

The couple wed Oct. 23, 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony near a tiger sanctuary.

I am pretty sure when they got married I said it wouldn’t last six months.  While they lasted a little more than 14 months, nobody is really surprised things didn’t work out.  To me, it is just another example of how hard it is for mega-celebrities to be able to co-exist in a relationship, let alone a marriage.

PS- Katy, if you need a hug, I am here for you.
