Winter Weather Advisory Continues

By now everybody in the WBOW listening area has some snow on the ground.  Temperatures are down in the teens and the wind is howling.  More snow expected overnight tonight and travel conditions will continue to deteriorate.   Below is the National Weather Service’s thinking on final accumulation:

 

Here is the latest bulletin from the National Weather Service in Indianapolis:

312 PM EST THU JAN 12 2012

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY...

.AN UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL BRING ACCUMULATING SNOW TO CENTRAL
INDIANA TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY. NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BECOME
STRONG BEHIND THE SYSTEM RESULTING IN BLOWING SNOW LATE TODAY
THROUGH FRIDAY.

THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF LATE TONIGHT...HOWEVER WEST
WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 30 MPH WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THIS WILL CAUSE DRIFTING AND REDUCED
VISIBILITIES.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST
FRIDAY.

* MAIN IMPACT...SLIPPERY ROADS DURING THURSDAY AFTERNOON...
  EVENING AND FRIDAY MORNING RUSH HOURS.

* OTHER IMPACTS...BLOWING SNOW WILL RESULT IN DRIFTING AND
  REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

* ACCUMULATIONS...AROUND 3 INCHES ACROSS THE NORTHERN
  COUNTIES...2 TO 3 INCHES ACROSS THE CENTRAL PORTIONS OF CENTRAL
  INDIANA...1 TO 2 INCHES ACROSS THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW
WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW
COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO STRONG WINDS BLOWING SNOW
AROUND. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS.
